The One Thing That’s Holding You Back

Saturday, I ran 10 miles in the pouring rain.

That’s right, 10 WHOLE MILES.

Why, you ask?

I’m training for my third half marathon.

Some might call me crazy. In fact, two years ago, I would have said you were absolutely nuts if you told me that I would ever run a half marathon, let alone, finish three measly miles.

What changed?

It wasn’t my physical ability or the amount of time I have in my schedule.

The difference is my mindset.

Last year, I made the decision to get in better shape. But, instead of simply declaring that I wanted to lose so many pounds or exercise a certain number of times a week, I decided to do something drastic to force myself to get out there and do it. And it worked.

The same thing applies to your business. I know you have the ability to do something truly amazing. But, we have a tendency to let excuses get in the way.

“I don’t have time.”

“I don’t have the money.”

“I am not creative.”

“I’m not smart enough.”

Hogwash.

The only thing holding you back is YOU.

Quit feeding on the lies you tell yourself. If you say you can’t do something, then you won’t. You’ve already lost the race because you simply didn’t put your toe up to the starting line.

Instead, make the decision, then do it. Simple as that.

Last week, I introduced you to my friend Melissa. She started a non-profit to help educate orphans in Zimbabwe. She didn’t wait around for someone else to fix the problem. She simply saw a need and decided to do something about it.

So, what about you?

If you’re ready to take your business to the next level, make some decisions that will help you achieve the results you’re after.

Decide to start a blog.

Decide to master social media.

Decide to improve your website.

Decide to communicate with your customers through email.

Being successful is more than simply making a decision, but taking that step is certainly half of the battle.

What do you think? What decisions do you need to make to grow your business?

You are so right Laura. I think that the first step to changing your mindset is to know what you want. Most people go through life without ever really thinking about what they want. But, once you start setting specific goals, you will begin accomplishing them.

Amen, Fred! I think people say they “can’t” instead of just saying they “won’t”. We can truly do anything we want if we simply try – people just let their fear get in the way.

Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. For me, the hard part is asking others to help me get there (get the job, get the client, talk to the contact…etc). If you never ask, the answer is always no!

Asking for help is hard – I struggle a lot with that too. We think asking for help is a sign of weakness, but instead, it shows we’re willing to fill gaps in our knowledge or it shows we’re willing to put ourselves out there (which can also be scary).

Good luck, Paige. Don’t let your fears stand in your way!
