Top 11 Marketing Pet Peeves {Podcast}

Marketing Pet Peeves

I’m typically not someone who likes to go on a rant in a blog post. I think most rants feel like an excuse to beat up on someone disguised as blogger therapy.

But today, I’m making an exception to my anti-rant rule – and for good reason.

I want to help you.

Stan and I both do.
 That’s why we
 are keeping it real and sharing what’s on our minds in today’s episode of The Marketing Huddle.
 And, right now, we’re fired up about all of the problems we see with marketing today.

Because we’re in the marketing trenches every day with our clients, we’re exposed to a lot of
 bad marketing practices.

We don’t want that to be you.

That’s why we’re sharing our top marketing pet peeves.
 Because we care deeply about your success, we want to call attention to the biggest marketing pitfalls we see in business today so you can steer clear of them.

We don’t want to give it all away, so you’ll have to take 15 minutes and listen.

Here’s what we covered in our rant:

  • Why Stan has a major beef with marketing consultants;
  • The worst kinds of spammy marketing;
  • The top phrases we hear from marketers and businesses that crawls under our skin and causes unicorns to die;
  • Why strategy might not be all that it’s cracked up to be; and
  • The biggest lie businesses tell themselves about marketing.

We get riled up in this episode. You don’t want to miss this lively conversation!

LOVE today’s rant-a-thon!

“Random acts of marketing” LOL!!

“Just be human.” UGH. As opposed to what?! Since I’m a human being, I’m pretty sure I’m being human. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, all you non-human robots out there! 😉

“Fancy talk and little practical experience.” Yep. You nailed it, Stan. Frankly, I’m tired of all the hype and hyperbole from marketing consultants. Seems many are far better at talkin’ the talk versus walkin’ the walk. Pfftt!

I can almost hear you ranting through your comment, Melanie!!! Stan definitely had some good ones on the show. I think he definitely wanted to call out the “pretenders” out there!

And you’re right – there’s a lot of screaming on the social web and very little listening at times. Listen and engage first so you don’t sound like a used car salesman!

Yes, I’ll admit I was ranting through my comment. 😉

There’s so much noise online, Laura, it’s almost deafening.

I really appreciate you mentioning the word, “listen”. You and I know listening is a skill and a critical component of relationship building. Sadly, a boatload of online marketers have yet to master that skill.

I understand people are in business to sell something. If only more of them would realize the importance of getting to know their audience first before asking for the sale.

Podcast on! (And rant on!)
