There’s no doubt that the impact of social media is growing. As Facebook and Twitter begins to invade the courtroom, it’s important for the court system, and all government agencies, to understand this trend.
Today, I presented to Florida Court PIOs about social media and how it affects the courts. Unfortunately, government agencies, including the courts, are reluctant to participate in social media efforts. While there are certainly pitfalls to social media, this platform also gives the courts a unique way to communicate with the public and the media. This presentation shows both sides of the coin in an effort to help courts make an informed decision about whether or not to employ these tools.
What do you think – should government agencies use social media? If so, how would you like to see government agencies use social media?
